My great grandad was born in India under British rule his name was Samuel O'Dell just wondering if this could be related

Left Limerick and enlisted in Belfast 1840 into British Army, 6th Regiment of Foot, His trade was recorded as "Weaver". Married Sarah White in Fort St George, India, 1842. They had six children ; Mary 1844, William 1845, John 1850, Patrick 1854, Charlotte 1864 & Alice 1866. Served in British Army 25 years and awarded rare medals for battles of Inkerman, Alma & Balaclava during the Crimean War. Death was by drowning at Arthur's Quay, Limerick City, on 20 December 1865 following discharge to pension as Colour-Sergeant just as joining up with Limerick Militia. Detailed in The Cork Daily Reporter and also in The Tipperary Vindicator & Limerick Reporter, 22 Dec 1865.
