John was born in Mallow, Cork in about 1830-34. He was a shoemaker. His parents were listed as Thomas Magner and Mary Sullivan on his Death Certificate by his brother Michael. He married Elizbeth McSweeney in Manchester, England in 1852. They had children: Mary Ellen B. Sep 1853, Thomas B. 1857 D. 1857, Michael B. 1858, John Edward B. 1862 and Catherine born on voyage 1863.They sailed for Sydney, Australia on "Persia" in 1863 sponsored by brother Michael. Margaret was born 1865 followed by Elizbeth 1869. He worked as a shoemaker in the Millers Point area and died of tuberculosis in 1875.
