Oliver was born about 1792 to Richard and Ann Prior Prittie. He married Tryphania Hayes in 1820 in the Civil Parish of Kilmore Ormand. His exact birth place is speculated to be in or near Silvermines.
Oliver immigrated with 5 children and wife to Quebec, Canada in 1832 where a record shows he worked for the City of Quebec. The family moved to Fitzroy Harbor, Kingston and then to Wolfe Island. He later moved to Montague, Lewis County, NY where he died. His death year is after the New York census of 1855 where he is noted as living in Montague and before the Federal census of 1860 where he does not show listed.
He was a carpenter by trade and moved frequently for work. 5 children were born in Ireland with 3 more born in Canada. Of these children, only 2 died young. Today his descendents are scattered through the US and Canada.
