Thomas MacNevin wrote a letter to Richard Robert Madden (the historian of the United Irish Movement) in which he claimed that the family was "distantly related" to Dr. William James MacNeven (the letter is in the Madden Papers at Trinity College Dublin). Thomas adds that his father, Daniel, will send Madden the details showing the family connection; but, I did find the letter from Daniel MacNevin to Madden. The National Library, Dublin has a portrait of Thomas MacNevin. The Library also has a collection of Thomas MacNevin's letters. My paternal family was related to the MacNevin's and Thomas lived on property (the "Mill Plot") in Oranmore owned by my grandfather.

Two small typos in my comments: Of course, Madden's volumes are on the United Ireland Movement — the
1798 Great Rebellion; and I did NOT find Daniel MacNevin's letter to Madden. If anyone knows that Daniel's letter is extant, I would love to hear about it.
