This is a picture of Delia McHugh Connolly and her husband John Connolly. It was sent back to relatives in Ireland after they emigrated to New York City, US, which I believe she arrived in 1896 at Ellis Island. I am not sure if they traveled together or at different times.
Delia had a sister, Sarah, who also emigrated to the US. I have a letter penned by their mother that references both names. It has the reference of Caltra on it. I also have a letter written to Delia from her brother, Patrick. Apparently, they must have left things on bad terms when Delia left for the US, as it is referenced in the letter with an apology. I was always told that they dressed up in this finery to be able to show their relatives back home that they were prospering in their new land. I believe the photo studio provided this finery for them to don.
Does anyone recognize these folks?
