Thomas was born in Townland of Letterfrack in civil parish of Ballynakill, Co. Galway Ireland in about 1846. He married Jane Lydon In August 1869 at Ballinakill Chapel in Renvyle in Tully Cross and shortly after they left Ireland with Jane's parents, Patrick and Bridget Lydon and came to the village of Marcellus, NY to join other family there. They had 12 children in Marcellus and lived around the bend from Jane's sister, Catherine Lydon Coyne and her husband Tady and their family. the Lydon parents lived alternately with the two families.
