In 1816, Mason records Fairview as the seat of Molloy McDermott Esq.
In 1827, William Morton Esq. "of Fairview" (aka Captain Morton of the 66th Regiment) and the Rev. Thomas Hackett were sworn as Commissioners for the Composition of Tithes in the parish of Killukin.
[Roscommon Journal, 22 November 1828] On the night of Wednesday last, some fellows entered the house of Captain Morton, near this town, and after taking away some fire-arms, they met Mr. Morton and his Son returning home, and beat them in a most desperate manner.
"Fair View" also denotes a locality, as he records it for Owen Thomas Lloyd Esq. who was residing across the road at The Hermitage [TA1835].
In 1837, Lewis records Fairview as the seat of William Morton Esq. and Fairview is clearly mapped in the first ordnance survey that year.
MARRIED, in the Church of Eastersnow, on the 7th June 1838, by the Rev. John Lloyd, J. W. M. Little, Esq., son of the late William Little, of Carrick-on Shannon, Esq., only surviving brother of the late Captain Little, 8th Hussars, brother-in-law to the late Captain Blair, nephew to Laid Dantry, and cousin to Colonel Hogg K. T. S. K. St. F. kc„ Ac . to Sarah, eldest daughter of William Morton, Esq., of Fairview, in this county. After partaking of a "dejeune a Ia fourchette," the happy couple left for Dublin where they purpose passing the "honeymoon.”
In 1857, Fairview is recorded as Croghan farm #3 in Griffith's Primary Valuation. Occupied by William Morton Esq., Fairview House [3a] was valued at £4 10s (to include outbuildings). In addition to the house, he was leasing 44 acres of land, and 24 acres of bog. Morton sub-let a house, out-building, and garden to Patrick Higgins [3b]. Morton was also leasing 22 acres of Guy Lloyd's land at Killapoge [farm#1]. There he sublet two small houses to Michael McGlynn [1a] and Mary Drury [1b]. At Ardkeenagh [farms#1,2,3] he was leasing 60 acres of land (to include herd's houses) and subletting a small house to Mary Dowd [3a].
Captain William Morton (Cess payer, Barony of Boyle) was residing at Fairview in 1859.
DEATHS
MORTON—April 6, 1875, at Alicebrook, Ardkeenagh, County Roscommon, suddenly, George Devenish Morton. Esq. the eldest son of the late Captain Morton, Fairview, Croghan. Aged 51 years; deeply and deservedly regretted [Irish Times].
LITTLE—ApriI 27 1890 at Fairview, Croghan, Sarah Elizabeth, widow of the late James Little, eldest daughter of the late Captain Morton, 66th Regiment, granddaughter of George Devenish, Esq., Mountpleasant, County Roscommon, in the seventieth year of her age. [In 1837, Thomas Morton Esq. of Castlenode House, Strokestown married Sarah, the daughter of George Devenish, Esq., Mountpleasant].
The 1901 Census, records Fairview as a 1st class house with ten rooms; its outbuildings included two stables and a barn. The property of Susan H Morton (b.1826), was home to three Morton siblings (all born in the 1820s, never married).
Fairview House today is still extant and occupied as a working farm.
