Malachy Collins was born about 1846 in County Clare, possibly Kilkee area. Per his 1865 marriage record, St. Michael's Cathedral, Toronto, his parents were Patrick Collins and Catherine Haugh. Family history indicates that Malachy and two sisters, Mary Anne and Jane, were orphaned during the Famine years and transported to Canada by the British Government. Transport records have not been found. No Irish records have been found to date. Malachy married Margaret Tammany in Toronto and then relocated and settled in Chicago, where he died in 1896. The following children were born in Chicago: James Patrick (1866), Charles F. (1868), Catherine (1870), Patrick Alexander (1871), Sarah Agnes (1874), Henry Joseph (1876), Malachy Raymond (1879), Mary Ann (1881), William Joseph (1888), Grace Irene (1891).
