John migrated from Meath to Nrwcastle-Upon-Tyne, Northumberland, England by 1851 when he married Mary Hand (b. 1838). They were living with her mother Mary Hand, widow of Owan Hand of Monaghan, Ireland. They had thier first child, Catherine on 20 Dec 1851 in Newcaste. They saild to America the following year on the The Thomsas Graham, and their dauhter died on the voyage. By 1870 they wee in Chicago, Illinois.
