There have only been bits and pieces put together about John Hassen, father of John Hassen/Hassett of Brownstown, Castletowndevlin, Westmeath (Clonmellon RC Parish). Clonmellon Parish lists a large number of Hassett individuals but records are few on them. In the early 1800s, about the time I am searching out the parents of my 3x great-grandfather John Hassett. At the time of his birth in 1805, there were 4 other John Hassetts (Gaelic variations on the name such as Hassen) and in the Clonmellon Parish records are born 4 John Hassetts, 3 of which are illigitimate, mothers being Maguire, Sheridan, & Tolan. The 4th is legitimate, John son of John & Nelly McCormick b.1805, my 3x great-grandfather.
