Teach na Screige aka Scregg House an exceptional country residence built in 1767, has long been the seat of a branch of the Kelly family (O'Kelly of Ui Maine descent).

In 1837, it was occupied by J.E. Kelly in 1837 and Eliza Kelly in the 1850s.

In the sale rental of 1856 the house is described as a respectable mansion, 3 stories high with basement and attic stories and a view of the Shannon River.

The Kellys held this property for centuries until 1909, when it changed hands. (In 1906 it was occupied by the representatives of Henry Potts).

Scregg House remained a residence until c.1980. when the Kellys ceased occupation.

The house, still extant, is currently undergoing restoration with support from the Irish Georgian Society.

  • I hope it is restored to its original granduer. A beautiful mansion with a view of the Shannon River. It sounds perfect.
    How long has it been
in this neglected state? Are there any photos of the interior in better days?

  • Why is it called the Scregg House if it belonged to the Kelly family?
