Interested in Ardfield Bantry connections. My great grandfather, John Donovan was born in Dunowen West, Ardfield, son of Michael Donovan and Mary Murray from Gahanive, Ardfield. John's wife was Jennie Dennis from Whiddy Island, Bantry. The family story was that they met in Queenstown (Cobh) and that my great grandfather was working there in a bank before coming to San Francisco. John had a first cousin, a Peggy Donovan Bawn who married a Pat O'Brien from the parish - they moved to San Francisco as well.

My great grandfather born to John Brien and Ellen Brophy of Ardfield and Ballyva in March 1848.
Born in Gurtnascreeny/Dromore near Bantry. Came to the US in 1868.
Purchased the bell tower and bell at St Mary’s Church in Kileenleigh/Caheragh.
Parents are buried in Old Ardfield Graveyard. Rocky was a Fenian, friend of O’Donovan Rossa, and author of “Birth and Adoption: A Book of Prose and Poetry.
