Jennie Samson is my great grandmother who emigrated to America (Pa) in 1871. She married Thomas Pickett in 1878 or 1879 in Huntingdon Pa. After Thomas was killed in a terrible (crushed shoulder) Pa. RR accident in 1886, she raised her 2 children Anna & Harry. She owned her own home but did housework for a local judge when raising her 2 granddaughters after Anna, a milliner, died at 29. Proudly Irish (1920 census) Jennie lived the rest of her life in Huntingdon, died at 85 & is burried in Riverview Cemetery. Two sisters Sarah & Nancy also lived in Huntingdon & predeceased her. Two brothers Robert & William emigrated to Pa. then RR employment led them to Montrose Colorado where they became wealthy ranchers. They revisited their Northern Ireland homeland in 1914 & funded a family memorial which can be seen in Castledawson Presbyterian Churchyard. It later included brother George & his family. The youngest Samson daughter Margaret emigrated to Australia.
I am interested in learning my relationship (if any) to present-day Samson/Sampson families in Co Derry, Castledawson area. Connie Clark Walker can be reached at ccwalker@cox.net
