My great-grandfather was Charles Goin, son of Virginia and William Harry Goin. He was also the grand-nephew of Charles Goin, planter and former military, who arrived in Trinidad in 1799 and died there in 1848.
Charles the elder owned two cotton estates, Mauxico and Willow Vale and, by all accounts, was very prosperous. He was a devout methodist and left a sizeable portion of his fortune to the Wesleyan church in his will, of which I have a copy. Charles was married twice, first to Margaret, who was sickly and subsequently died. His second wife was Sophia, who resided in England.
Willaim Harry Goin was his uncle's tenant, under a seven-year lease of the two estates, beginning in 1841.
Information gained from family trees on Ancestry claim that the Goins were from Tipperary. Charles the elder had a sister, Ellen, who resided in Mountrath, Queen's county.
I am seeking information on both Charles the elder and the younger, especially records that would demonstrate the link between the two. I've been unsuccessful in finding any information on William Harry and his family, especially his son. Charles the younger would have been born around 1840 as he was a young boy when his grand-uncle died in 1848. Apparently Charles the younger was also in the military, though I have no documentary proof of that fact.
Can anyone help me find the information I seek?
