The following information was provided by Mr Steve Dolan, Manager of The Irish Workhouse Centre, Portumna, Co. Galway
The Cashel Poor Law Union was officially declared in 1839. The Workhouse was opened in 1842 at a cost of £6,450. It was built to house a maximum capacity of 700 inmates, but census records show that the true population of Cashel Workhouse reached as high as 2,570 inmates in 1849. The Cashel Workhouse was built to accomodate people from the areas of Ardmayle, Ballysheehan, Cashel, Clogher, Cloneen, Clonoulty, Drangan, Fethard, Gaile, Gracetown, Killenaule, Kilpatrick, Kiltinan, Knockgraffan, Magorban, Peppardstown, and Tullemain.
The Cashe Workhouse was repurposed as a health care facility and is now occupied by Saint Patrick's Geriatric Hospital.
My great grandmother Sarah Lacey (Lacy) died of TB in the Cashel Workhopuse in 1882. Unfortuantely the scanned records held by Tipperary Studies only go up to 1850. It would be very much apprecaited if anyone could point me in the direction of any post famine records for Cashel and in particular the 1880's.
thanks

Hi Peter,
I think your best option would be to contact the Tipperary County Archivist directily. The website is here https://www.tipperarycoco.ie/your-council/county-archives . They shoul dbe able to tell you what documents they have access to. If you haven't already made an Ancestor Chronicle for Sarah Lacey, then it would be a good idea to do so and link her to Cashel and the Workhouse, that way others in the area will see it and be able to help you. Lastly, I would highly recommend posting your question in the message board for Tipperary or better yet St John Baptst (the civil parish where the Workhouse is located). That way more people will see it and hopefully be able to help you out.
If you need any assistance creating an Ancestor Chronicle then just let me know and I would be more than happy to help.
All the best,

That's fantastic news! Have you added Sarah to the Ancestor Chronicles? We can link her to the building. In this video tutorial I explain the process. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WG2FDXyo4EQ&t=3s
