Teach an Phiarsaigh aka Pearse Cottage in Gortmore in the Gaeltacht area of Rosmuc, was built in 1909, by writer and educator, Pádraig Mac Piarais aka Patrick Pearse.
Pearse, who went on to become one of the leaders of the Easter Rising of 1916, built a cottage here on the shores of Loch Oiriúlach, as a summer residence and school.
Ionad Cultúrtha an Phiarsaigh in Ros Muc, is in the heart of the Connemara Gaeltacht, on the Wild Atlantic Way. The Visitor Centre exhibition deals with Pearse's legacy and explores the things that drew Pearse to Connemara: the area's unique landscape and history, and the ancient Gaelic culture and language which is still alive in the area today.
Pearse's close friend, Stiofáin Bairéad, was a founding member of the Irish language revivalist movement Conradh na Gaeilge aka The Gaelic League.
