Athlone Railway Station is located in the civil parish of St Peter's in County Westmeath, though it must be noted that part of this civil parish is also in County Roscommon.
The Railway Station was built in 1851 in the Italianate style. It was designed by J.S. Mulvaney.
The station formed part of the Midland and Great Western Railway Company's line from Broadstone to Galway.
Though Athlone is still home to a busy railway station, this particular building closed to the public in 1985.
The Athlone Railway Station has been preserved to a good standard and the building is still in use today as an office space.
