Francis Martin Gormley was born in Fermoy Co. Cork in 1870 to Edward Gormley (1824-1897) and Mary Casey (1841-1888).

In the 1911 Irish census, Francis Martin is named as the Master of the Fermoy Union Workhouse, a position that had previously been held by his father Edward.
Francis Martin was widowed in 1927 and he himself died in 1935.
