Migrated to/Born in UK

My ancestor James Irvine was born in Cookstown, Co. Tyrone about 1818. He emigrated to Lanarkshire, Scotland where he was married in 1840. He was employed as a clockmaker. On his marriage record he lists his birth place as Cookstown, Co Tyrone. He was married in a Catholic Church and both his children were baptised in the same Catholic Church. He had 2 children in Lanarkshire, Andrew Charles Irvine and James Johnston Irvine. I noticed that Johnston was a popular surname in this area and I thought that might me pertinant. He later emigrated to the United States in 1844.

He had 3 relatives living with him in 1850 in the US. John Irvine, possible brother, born about 1820. Hugh Irvine born about 1833 and Andrew Irvine born about 1831.

Andrew travelled to the US with James Irvine and lived with his family until he reached adulthood.

Can anyone lead me to where I can find information about births, marriages etc in this area during the early 1800's? Is there a connection between Cookstown and Lanarkshire?

Sorry for the ramble. Any hints would be greatly appreciated.

Kristen
