Mrs. Susanna Thomas Thompson, who is my great great great aunt, was the wife of the Right Honourable Robert Thompson.
As well as MP for Belfast North, Robert Thompson was also the chairman of the Belfast Harbour Commissioners. They owned the Thompson Graving Dock, where the Titanic was fitted out before setting sail. It was the only dock that could accommodate the Titanic.
I visited the offices of the family business Lindsay, Thompson & Co. Ltd. and saw the beautiful woodworking done by the same craftsmen who built the interior of the Titanic. I was escorted by my cousin, Dr. Eric Thompson who is the grandson of Susanna and Robert Thompson.
