My great great grandfather was named Chitick Lamma (Lammy). It is a very unusual name, but it turns out he had a cousin in Pike Illinois who was named Chittick Charles Lammy who was the son of Solomon Lammy II. Chittick Lamma had another cousin named Chittick Moore who was the son of Sally Lamma who married Verner Moore. Then he had another cousin named Chittick Mortland. He was the son of Mary Ann Lammy and John Mortland.
Solomon Lamma Sr, had 7 children including Solomon Lamma (Lammy) II, Mary Ann Lamma and Sally Lamma. They also had Robert Lammy who ended up in Schenectady, New York; John Lambe Lammy, Andrew Lammy and my ancestor William J. Lamma. William J. Lamma was born in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland and married twice. His first wife S. Hale Higgins died 1854 in Philadelphia at age 53, He married again to Mary Ann Latta in Philadelphia and they had 7 children including my ancestor Chittick Lamma. William lived in Lexington Nebraska with Chittick but returned to Philadelphia and died there Dec 4 1875.
William's father was Soloman Lamma (Lammy) Sr and he was born 1753 in Legreshey, Drumquin, County Tyrone Northern Ireland. He married Mary "Jennie" Chittick and he died 1858 in Legreshey. Mary Jennie Chittick was born 1860 in County Tyrone and died 1825 in County Tyrone. This is obviously where the name Chittick came from.
My Chittick was born in County Tyrone in Northern Ireland June 1823. He married Mary Jane Park Aug 7 1845. They had 11 children including my great grandmother Catherine "Katie" Lamma. All of their children were born in Philadelphia. His son William Lamma III, Mary Ann Lamma, Latta Wesly Lamma, Francis West Lamma and Catherine all moved to Lexington Nebraska with their parents. Margaret S. Lamma ended up in Los Angeles and John Bell Lamma ended up in Livingston Park, Montana.
Catherine "Katie" Lamma was born July 24th 1861 and married Johannes Niels Jacobsen (John Jacobson Sr) Dec 12, 1876 in Plum Creek (Lexington) Nebraska. She unfortunately died young at the age of 55 Feb 24th 1917 in Los Angeles California from diabetes related issues. John and Katie homesteaded about a mile west of town and had 12 children including my grandmother Edna Ruth Jacobson.
Latta Wesly Lamma's daughter Helen Irene Lamma was born in Lexington Nebraska April 2 1882 and married Moses Ebert Smith June 18 1919 in LaSalle Colorado. Moses owned a lumber yard, later became the mayor of Ault Colorado, then was in the state legislature and unsucessfally ran for Governor twice. He was later appointed as the head of the Denver Mint for two four year terms.
If anyone knows anything about the ancestors of Solomon Lamma (Lammy) around or before 1753, please let me know. The same thing would go for Mary Jennie Chittick and her family around 1860 or earlier in the County Tyrone area. I had talked to a genealogist recently who was working on the Chittick Charles Lammy from Pike Illinois and he thought that the Lammy family might be Huguenot's that fled from religious persiqusion in France. I have also found Lammy familes in the low lands of Scotland about 200 years before this time. This would have been about the same time that people were leaving France, so it is possible that they may have left France and ended up in Scotland.
