Researching the Hedican family from County Clare.  Have also found various spellings of Hedican and do not know if they are the same family or not.

Martin born 1815 - 1829 in Kilmacduane/Kilmihil; father Michael born 1800 and mother Catherine "Kate" Normile/Normyle born 1800.

Ancestry has a daughter Mary/Maria born in 1847 when her father Martin was 18 and her mother Mary McNamara was 22, but have been unable to find a marriage or birth certificate.  Have found a Martin Hedican who died in Kilmihil in 1893 but do not know if this is the same Martin and have been unable to find a death certificate for Mary.

Daughter Mary/Maria Hedican went to Australia when she was 12 or 13 but we have been unable to find any record of her travelling to Australia.  We are "assuming" that she went as a servant to a family.

Another confusing fact - On the birth certificate of one of her children her name was stated as "Maria Harper formerly Maria Reicheu" Hedican.

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

  • There are no hedican families in the area but there is a hedigan family from cooraclare which is a neighbouring parish. Maybe do some research on hedigans from cooraclare. There is still a normoyle family in kilmihil. this is the correct spelling.
