Martin was the son of Patrick Nolan and Sarah Dunne Nolan, born 10 Oct 1866 in Nenagh, Tipperary (ancestry.com, Ireland Births and Baptisms). He arrived in the US in 1890, married first wife Bridget Clancy on 25 Oct 1896 in Manhattan, NY, USA, and became a US citizen on 3 Aug 1897. He and Bridget Clancy Nolan had at least 4 children: Sarah Catherine, Peter, Mary Bridget, and Martin Jr (Mary Bridget and Martin Jr. both died in infancy). Martin worked at his brother James' bakery in NY. His mother, Sarah Dunne Nolan, came to the US after her husband died, and she lived with Martin and his family until her death in 1905. Martin's first wife, Bridget Clancy Nolan, died in 1908. Soon after that, he brought his children, Sarah and Peter, to Nenagh to stay with his aunt (Ellen Dunne Ryan). They stayed there until 1911, when he brought them home to New York to live with him and his second wife, Bridget Gleeson Nolan. Martin had 9 more children with his second wife. He died on 25 Jan 1934 in NY and is buried in Calvary Cemetery (Queens, NY, USA).
