Daniel Priest Sr. aka Dónal Mac a' tSagairt was a farmer in Knockroe (near Cavetown in Estersnow). 

  • In 1829, he witnesses the marriage of his brother Patrick Priest of Knockvicar (further north in Kilbryan) to a Healy in Croghan. 

Shortly after that Dan married Honor Regan (1814-1884) in Croghan and raised a family in the nearby townland of Knockroe.  

Their close in-laws included: Mary McDonagh, Mary Feely, Ann Noon, James Simon, Mary Durcan, Mary Beirne, Brigid Queenan / Keenan, Lawrence & Brigid Cunneen /Cummins 

His landlord was Lord Lorton of Rockingham House. 

  • Dan appears on record in Knockroe's Tithe Applotment books of 1841. with about 12 acres (7 Irish aka Plantation acres). 

  • By 1857 we can see he was living at #8a Knockroe (next door toe the McDonogh family) and had increased his holding to 40 acres (including land at #9a which was part bog).

Daniel Priest Sr. died in Knockroe in 1877, age 74. He was survived by his wife Honora Priest who died in 1884, age 70. 

Children:

  • In 1864, Daniel Priest Jr. married Catherine McDonagh and lived in of Knockroe.

  • In 1867, their daughter Anne Priest of Knockroe married James Casey of Kilmanack (Kilnamanagh near Frenchpark).

  • In 1872, their daughter Margaret Priest of Knockroe married Luke Casey of Tulleran (Tullaghan near Frenchpark in the parish of Kilnamanagh).
