Mark Hynes lived in the townland of Balcunnin at Farm#9 (along the road between Finnegan's Corner and Baldongan) just south of Milverton Hall & Demesne.

It looks like the original farm buildings are still extant and in use (see Leinster Hydraulics & Farm Machinery Ltd). Click here for STREETVIEW.

In 1853, at the time of Griffith's Valuation, Mark was renting over 168 statute acres from Major-General Loftus. His house (#9a) and farmyard were rated at £9 9s per annum. He was also subletting farm #11 to William Connor.

In 1833, the Tithe Applotment books record Mark as holding 58 Irish acres and Matthew Hynes holding over 123 Irish acres next door to Widow Dollard who held 28 acres.

  • Matthew's sister, Brigid Hynes married Patrick Dollard of Balcunnin in 1768.
