My g-grandfather, William Byron, was born in Bansha, Tipperary, in 1838, to William Byron & Margaret Byrnes. He arrived in Australia in 1859 with his sister, Johanna (c.1839). Their older sister, Bridget (c.1828), had arrived previously and had married Jeremiah Kelleher in Newcastle, NSW. William married Ellen Coyne (from Co Mayo) in Newcastle in 1872 and they had 7 children, one of whom was my grandmother. William's sister, Johanna, married James Colgan in 1862. We think there may have been another brother, Patrick, who remained in Ireland.
