BIRTH
Timothy Flaherty was born in October 1786 according to his baptismal record. Timothy was born in Knockanush Townland (near Slievenavadoge) in the Clogherbrien Civil Parish in the Tralee Catholic Parish in County Kerry, Ireland. The Diocese was Ardfert and Aghadoe (Kerry). Timothy's parents were John Flaherty and Mary Pierce. (His mother was misnamed in his baptismal record.)
MARRIAGE AND FAMILY
Timothy married Margaret Riordan about 1812 in County Kerry, Ireland since their first known child, Morgan, was born in 1813. They baptized their children in Slievenavadoge Townland. They had a half-dozen children during their marriage, including John Flaherty who married Catherine Dinneen. John and Catherine brought up their children in Slievenavadoge Townland.
RELIGION
If Timothy and Margaret raised their children in Slievenavadoge, they likely attended Mass in the nearest (temporary) "Mass-house" which was in the Town of Tralee about three miles to the east. Beginning in 1802 a Roman Catholic chapel was open in Chapeltown (Ballyea) Townland about six miles to the west. The family of Timothy Flaherty may have used a horse-drawn cart to attend Mass at the the Roman Catholic chapel at Chapeltown Townland - an hour long trip. More likely the family continued to attend Mass at a Roman Catholic site in the Town of Tralee.
DEATH
Because an 1848 land lease was in Margaret Flaherty's name in 1848, and not in his name, it is likely that Timothy Flaherty passed away about 1846. The property was in Slievenavadoge Township, so he likely died there. In 1846 that township was in Clogherbrien Civil Parish in Tralee Catholic Parish.
BURIAL
As of 2021, the location of the gravesite of Timothy and his wife, Margaret Riordan Flaherty, was uncertain. Timothy Flaherty may have been buried in Churchill Cemetery in Glebe Townland located very near Chapeltown Townland. Burial records before 1898 were unavailable for Churchill. Perhaps Timothy and Margaret Flaherty were buried in a cemetery in the Town of Tralee.
