Place of migration
Migrated to/Born in South Africa
My family, Benjamin Dixon (born 1799 in Wicklow, Ireland) and Ledivia/Lovdy/Lodivia Maria (Nee Manifold) Dixon (born 1808 in Wicklow, Ireland) left Ireland in 1839/1840. Their last place of residence (please see attachments) - their home first block on the right - was 12 Queen street Benjamin's parents were James and Jane Dixon (and Maria's parents were Joseph (a farmer from Wicklow) and Jane Manifold. Benjamin and Lovdy lived with their 4 children at 12 Queen street. The street joined the "Queen Street Bridge" over the River Liffey. Their home was a few meters from the bridge. When circumstances forced thousands to look for "greener pastures" they too left hoping to find a better life in Australia. Lovdy was pregnant and they left either end 1839 or beginning1840. Their son, born at sea, just outside London, was named Richard Neptune Dixon. While their plan was to emigrate, they planned to move to Australia but disembarked in Cape Town because Lodivia wasn't well after the birth. Their plan was to catch a later ship to Australia but they remained in Simon's Town The South African/Irish Dixon families can therefore be traced to a single progenitor, Benjamin and Dixon 1799, Wicklow Ireland
