MaryTV, Thank you for sending the Ancestry.com info--it really helped to confirm some of the jumble of Ryan family info I have. I appreciate your very timely & helpful reference to the important info out there!

The Irish Family History Centre folks
identified John B.H. Ryan's baptism in the Roman Catholic parish of Cappawhite which apparently corresponds to the civil parish of Killoskehan and Toem. Would you be able to share anything about these county Tipperary places?

    Thanks & blessings, JVRYAN

  • JVRyan,

Sorry I don't know anything about these places. My Lane family lived in Toem in the early 1800s. I only know this through DNA connections. The family was Protestant so records are limited. They were connected to the Lane, White, and Givens families. My 3rd great grandfather, James Lane, married Sarah Kinkead of Lackelly, Emly in 1814. At some point, they moved to Ballynagrana, Emly, Tipperary where he leased a farm per the 1834 Tithe Applotment.

Short description of Toem in 1837.

In 1937, students were asked to write about where they lived. There were several stories about Toem and Cappghwhite.

I am not sure if any of this helps??

    Take care- Mary

  • I came across a recent death notice for a Ryan from Cappaghwhite. I assume there are Ryans still living in the area. You might contact the funeral home or the local Church to see if they can connect you to the Ryan family.
