My 2 X Great Grandfather, Michael John Walsh, was born in abt 1820 in County Tipperary. In abt 1840 he went to Australia. He married Mary Gaffney on 18 September 1843 at St. Mary's Church in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Michael, Mary, and their three children arrived in San Francisco on July 29, 1852. The family surname became Welsh upon arrival to America.
