Place of migration
Migrated to/Born in UK
According to his army record William Wells was born in Carrick on Suir in 1753, He was probably a bootmaker, and joined the army, 19the Regt, in his late 20s. I assume Protestant - William, son George, grandson William. He was promoted to sergeant - could be because he was Protestant and literate. Can't find when he was married, but his son George was born in St Lucia in 1783 when the 19th Regt were in the West Indies. William's wife must have been a "camp follower". The son, George, enlisted in the 19th Regt at age 12, going on to be promoted to sergeant. Either William or George musthave married a Boyd - the family name continued on when George's dau migrated to Australia.
