William O'Keefe, my fourth great-grandfather, was born on June 17, 1748 in Kill St. Nicholas, Waterford. He married Mary Tobin and had two sons in Waterford before he and Mary emigrated to Harbour Grace in what was then the Dominion of Newfoundland (now a part of Canada). They had six more sons and four more daughters in Newfoundland. William died sometime around 1806 and Mary in 1837, both in Newfoundland. Their sons were engaged in fishing off the coast of Newfoundland, as were most Irish immigrants.
