Migrated to/Born in UK

According to his army discharge papers, William Wells was born in c1753 in the Parish of Whitechurch, near Carrick on Suir, County Tipperary. He enlisted at the age of 26 and was in the 19th Regiment of foot, associated with Leeds in Yorkshire. He was discharged there in 1809. He appears to be literate, speaking English, and reaching the rank of sergeant. His discharge papers give his occupation as bootmaker - presumably before he joined the army.

He had a son, George, born in St Lucia, West Indies in 1783, who joined the 19th Regiment at the age of 12.

From the names George and William, I imagine that William was not Catholic. His granddaughter, who migrated to Australia, was a staunch Methodist, and it seems likely that her father, William was also, or at least non-conformist.
