Ellen Elizabeth was born in 1824 in Correvan Aghabog Parish County Monaghan James Dawson and Eliza Dunn. Ellen had 2 sisters Margaret born 1827 in Clones, Sarah born 1833 and a brother William born in 1832. Ellen married Samuel Martin when she was 16 years of age and lived in Corrachulter townland. The couple had 1 son James Dawson Martin born in 1854, and 4 daughters, Margaret Ellen born 1845, Mary Eleanor born 1857, Susan Elizabeth born 1865 and Emily Francis born 1867. Susan and James died at a young age and the other three daughters emigrated to the Waikato region of NZ. Ellen's husband died in 1893 and she emigrated to NZ to be near her daughters in Huntly, where she unfortunately died in a house fire in 1898.
