During the Williamite Wars in Ireland, a raid was carried out on garrison forces in Newry, Co. Down.
The Williamites were attacked by Franco-Irish forces who were loyal to the Scottish King James II, better known as the Jacobites.
After experiencing success in a number of small battles, the Jacobites pursued the Williamites to where they were station in Newry.
Upon the break out of a skirmish in the town of Newty, the Jacobites soon realised that they were outnumbered and instigated a retreat.
