The Bingham family resided in Castlebar, County Mayo from 1584.
Their ancestral home was the Lawn House.
In 1776 Charles Bingham was granted the title of Lord Lucan. His daughter would become Princess Diana's great grandmother.
The 4th Earl granted a piece of land known as The Mall to the people of Castlebar in 1888, which is now used as a public park.
